September is Self-Improvement Month!

Anytime is the right time to make improvements to your life and to yourself. September is Self-Improvement Month, so why not start now?

Self-improvement doesn’t have to be a big to-do. Little changes can make a big difference and can put you on a path towards achieving your goals. Here are four hacks to help you improve yourself and your life:

Stop procrastinating: We’ve all heard the phrase “Don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today” but sometimes whatever it is you’re avoiding just feels overwhelming. . So you put it off. The fear and dread of the task is often the hardest hurdle to overcome. Start by writing down the steps required to accomplish your task. By taking small steps, you begin to chip away at the task, breaking it into smaller, achievable pieces.  Before you know it, you’ll be moving on to the next task.

Write it down: Making lists is a great way to keep your life organized and yourself motivated to stay that way. Crossing off a task on your list is empowering. It highlights your ability to affect change. It’s a confidence booster.

Exercise daily and mix it up: There are so many benefits to exercising – almost too many to list here but among them are improved sleep, higher energy, stronger immunity, a more alert brain, and a happier outlook.  If you haven’t exercised for a while (or ever) begin with a short walk. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk when you might otherwise drive (within reason), or just take a stroll around the block. If you already exercise, mix it up. Challenge yourself and your muscles to try something new.

Reduce your screen time: If you’re a parent, you’re already thinking about the appropriate amount of time your kids should (or should not) be playing video games, watching television, or otherwise interacting with a computer, tablet or smart phone. And while experts agree that children should not have more than 1-2 hours of screen time a day, there is no similar guideline for adults.. Time spent in nature, on hobbies, or with friends and family is almost always more rewarding than watching TV, trolling social media, or the isolation of playing a game on your smart phone. Start by either picking one night a week to be screen-free, or choosing a time of day when screens are off limits.

Drink more water: There’s some debate about exactly how much water we need but there’s little debate about the benefits of water consumption. Healthier skin, digestive regularity, reduced appetite, and overall hydration are great reasons to increase your water intake. Start your day by drinking one or two 8-ounce glasses of water in the morning. That’s two fewer glasses of water you’ll need later in the day. Crystal Geyser Sparkling Water is a great alternative for those who prefer bubbles with your water. We believe water is #betterwithbubbles, too.

Whatever self-improvement path you take, don’t be disheartened if you trip or miss a few steps, the path is still there for you to follow, one step at a time.
